Babylon

Ancient Babylon

Hi, this is Angel, and this part of the podcast is about Ancient Babylon. Ancient Babylon came after Sumer, from around 1800 B.C. to 1750 B.C., and was a very important part of Mesopotamia’s history. Hammurabi ruled Ancient Babylon, but we’ll talk about him more later.

.
King Hammurabi was a ruler of Babylon. He was known as a great military leader. Hammurabi is remembered for his code of laws that are known as Hammurabi’s Code
He gained control over the city states by cutting off their water flow.

Hammurabi’s Code

Hammurabi’s Code was the first set of laws created by King Hammurabi. These set laws were strict and violent and some of them were also unfair. If they didn’t have a set of laws they couldn’t show proof if someone broke a law. It would be crazy in Babylon if there wasn’t a set of laws. The city would be really violent and I’d think really scary.

New Babylon
New Babylon became the world’s largest city. It also became famous for its technology and great beauty. Now, two humongous walls and a deep moat protect Babylon. It was split in two by the Euphrates River. It is connected by a moveable bridge and an underwater tunnel! In the middle is a ziggurat. There are now grid-style streets, sewer and water systems, and 3 and 4 story homes! It also became well known for its beautiful hanging gardens.

Conclusion

Alright, that’s all for Babylon. I hope you enjoyed it and learned a lot about it.
